Literacy are though through concrete manipulation of the Montessori materials. Children learn literacy through concrete manipulation of the Montessori literacy materials. These includes work with the insets for design, the Large Moveable Alphabet, just to name a few. Such approach gives children a concrete memory of concepts and literacy skills that works naturally with children’s perception of the world around them. Montessori mathematics, on the other hand, gives rise to concepts or pre-number skills leading to an understanding of one to one correspondence that supports the learning of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and an understanding of the decimal system.
