The programmes offered are based on the Montessori Philosophy. The programme allows the children to learn within a prepared environment. A prepared environment is one that has an environment that is prepared with the child’s interest and developmental needs and stages in mind.
Within this environment, children learn to choose their work, work at their own pace to meet developmental needs. Teachers or Directresses are trained adults that help the child to meet the child’s learning outcome as well as meeting the learning objectives. Both individual work and group work are encouraged. Individual work means children get to work on a piece of material or activity on their own. Group work is sometimes done to encourage participation from each child as well as for the directress to discuss on the topics based on the theme of that particular month.
Spaces are limited for 6 years old as parents may prefer the more traditional school programme. However, the programme provides a wide spectrum of learning for your 2-5 years old and will prepare them well for any school setting.
Sessions offered are:
Half – day programme (8.00 am to 12.00 pm)
Full – day programme (8.00 am to 6.00 pm)
Timetable
Although we have a timetable for each day, we have learnt to allow the child to dictate the order of events that make up our programme for the day. When we started our school, we planned a work time from 8 to 9.30 in the morning where we will then break for sharing time or music and movement. As the years progress, we have seen children settling in to work that sometimes showed us that the timetable is just a guide. Now, we have noticed that by 9.30 the children are still very much engrossed in their work and it is usually by this hour that they begin their most difficult work. This is very much like what Dr. Montessori refers to as the work cycle.
